Alena (sometimes written as 'Alana' or 'Alania') is the longtime handmaiden, companion and friend of Lady Cera, having been with her since Cera was a young girl. Originally from Rethwellan, she accompanied Lady Cera first to Haven, then to Sandbriar.
In Haven, when Cera's husband kept her confined to their suite, Alena served as her only companion and link to the outside world. Later in Sandbriar, Cera came to rely on her practical nature and steady influence.
When Cera pulled a drunken Ager back into the real world, Alena helped him find his way, and fell in love with him in the process. After Alena became pregnant, he proposed to her. Lady Cera granted them permission to marry, but only after waiting a few months to be certain it was what they wanted. She didn't want Alena trapped in a marriage she would regret, as Cera herself had been.
