Breda was a Master Bard teaching at the Bardic Collegium during the reign of Randale. She was a contemporary of Herald-Mage Savil. She was described as having a "deep voice still as smooth as cream despite her age, and steadier than the Palace foundations." (Magic's Price)
She was a bit of an Empath and had some herbalist training. Between them, she was the next thing to a chirurgeon. For this reason, she chose rooms right next to the main staircase at Bardic, so she would be close to hand to patch up injured students. The student rumor said she had chosen those rooms just to catch and embarrass errant students attempting to sneak in after hours.
Breda was the Bard who first confirmed for a young Vanyel that he did not possess the Bardic Gift at that time. She was also the Bard who later confirmed Stefen's Wild Talent for singing away pain. She was prone to dazzle headaches (migraines), and had few options for relief from the pain. Stefen's singing, however, did work. She suggested Vanyel try him out with Randale.
It was implied that Breda was also the one who spread the use of the twelve-string gittern, after Vanyel introduced her to the instrument and its creator, Master Rolf Dawson.
Some time after Vanyel's death, Breda and Master Healer Gavin worry about a pair of twins, Bard Trainee Rhiannon and Healer Trainee Dionne. The twins seem entirely too dependent on each other, and the instructors decide to separate them for their internship year.[1]
