Circuits are the prescribed routes[1] that Heralds routinely ride in each sector of Valdemar. The routes go from town to town in a scheduled order, where the Heralds will explain new laws, bring news, and pass judgments that cannot be handled by the locals for whatever reason. Of course, the Heralds ride their Companions. The usual use of the term is "riding circuit" or that a person is "on circuit."
Each Sector is assigned an identifier. For example, Talia's Internship with Herald Kris was North Border, Sorrows Two. Herald Dirk's family is nearby, in Sorrows One.
Seneschal Kyril said about Border sectors, "They need to know that they're as important to the life of this Kingdom as the capital Sector itself."
