"Consequences Unforeseen" is the second story in the Lady Cera Miniseries by Elizabeth A. Vaughan.

Overview[]

After traveling most of the way to Sandbriar, Lady Cera learns from local Herald, Helgara, that Sandbriar is in trouble. Before the death of the lord and his family, the lands were depleted of crops, livestock and men given to support Valdemar's army during the Tedrel Wars. Although no battles were fought at Sandbriar, its people are weary, discouraged, impoverished and hungry.

Chronology (Warning! SPOILERS!)[]

According to the previous story, Lady Cera departed from Haven the same day she was granted the lands. That was right after Prince Karathanelan died, in Spring of 1378 AF. The travel time to Sandbriar is not specified, but by carriage it takes three days to get from the Sandbriar boundary to the manor. Helgara's Circuit will bring her back in the fall. The sheep have not been shorn, which usually happens before summer. Cera wants to harvest and glean, which typically happens in the fall, as the fields need attention. (The infamous boar hunt, often mentioned in later stories, occurs here.) The story ends in late summer, 1378 AF. For further information, see the Lady Cera Miniseries chronology.
