Deira

Deira is a weaver, born and raised in Westerbridge, Valdemar. She had fallen in love with Herald Aldren, but lost touch with him when he returned to the frontlines of the war. Seventeen and pregnant, she was one of the few to escape when Karsites overran Westerbridge. A refugee, she made her way west, scrubbing pots and taking on other odd jobs to keep her and her daughter Selaine fed.

Eventually, the pair settled in the far western village of Evenleigh, where Deira returned to her trade as a weaver. Deira nearly ran again when a giant Pelagirs spider invaded the village. In the end, however, it was Deira's plan that lead to the capture of the monster.

After surviving a plague fever that swept through Evenleigh, and learning the dangers of Selaine's untrained Gift, Deira agreed to allow Selaine to study at the Healers' Collegium. Selaine went on ahead to Haven. Deira packed up and followed later, making a good living from her rugs, which were very popular with the highborn ladies.

While living in Haven, Deira took in a refugee family. With their ancient yarn magic, and the help of Selaine and her friends, Deira lead the group in saving Haven from Tedrel saboteurs during the annual Midsummer festival.
