Summary (Warning! SPOILERS!)[]
Lady Cera receives a letter from the Healers' Collegium, thanking her for the kandace she and Jebren have sent, applying the funds against Sandbriar's taxes, and requesting that Madter Xenos return to Haven. Master Jebren teaches Cera to make oil from kandace. Herald Helgara and Companion Stonas are still recovering from their injuries. The local summer season's high temperatures require afternoon rest and shade for all, including the chirras. Gareth and some of the Valdemar Guard patrol for bandits. Cera's former father-in-law shows up, demanding the truth about his son's death. Alaina and Ager celebrated too much at Midsummer, and decide to marry. Jebren helps shear a sheep. After Sinmon's father goes home, he writes to Cera, asking her to foster his eldest daughter next year.
