Dawnfire k'Sheyna was a young Tayledras scout of the Clan k'Sheyna. Her Gifts included Animal Mindspeech, and she mindspoke the nonhuman races with an enviable ease. Therefore, she specialized in coordinating the nonhuman residents of k'Sheyna territory. Despite this, this was unable to see through the eyes of her bondbird, Kyrr, without going into a full trance.
As she was described: "...in her the aquiline Tayledras features had been refined to the point that she resembled the elfin tervardi, the lovely flightless bird-people she often worked with."[1]
Dawnfire felt excluded when the gryphons Treyvan and Hydona became close with Darkwind but did not welcome her overtures. Darkwind, her scout leader and lover, ordered her to stay away from Treyvan and Hydona's home on a specific day, without giving a reason. Not knowing that the gryphons would be on their mating flight, she fully bonded with Kyrr and went to investigate. She was present when Mornelithe Falconsbane attacked the gryphons, and was attacked with them.
She woke trapped in Kyrr's body, with Kyrr's personality gone. Worse, she was a captive of Mornelithe Falconsbane. Falconsbane allowed her to escape to report disinformation about his activities. But her human body was dead, and she was trapped in the hawk's body. Her future was bleak. Eventually, her mind would fade away, bit by bit, until only the hawk remained. Before this could happen, the Star-Eyed stepped in, transforming Dawnfire into an avatar.
It was after her transformation that Dawnfire first met the Shin'a'in shaman Tre'valen shena Tale'sedrin. They both knew immediately that they were soulmates. They often visited with one another on the Moonpaths in the Spirit Plane. After Tre'valen's own transformation, they furthered the work of their goddess together, and helped An'desha escape Falconbane.
Tre'valen and Dawnfire appeared to the group in the remains of Urtho's Tower to help find a solution to the Mage Storms. They joined the final working, shielding An'desha. In doing so, they burned out the last bit of themselves that held them anchored in the mortal world, a situation the Star-Eyed was not inclined to rectify, as they had overstepped the limits of what they were allowed to do as Her avatars. They now can only appear on the Moonpaths.

Dawnfire bonded with Kyrr when she was ten years old, and was seventeen years old when she was transformed.
