Those found to possess the Gift of Healing or Mindhealing (or both) are commonly taken into Healers' Collegium and given proper training to become a Healer. Healers levels indicate the power of the individual, which is determined by both training and strength of the Gift.
Basic healers who have no Healing Gift at all may be referred to as "knife-and-herb" healers. They must rely on treating illness with only what they have. Gifted Healers are not common enough to have one in every small village and at every post where a Healer is needed. A knowledgeable and well-trained basic healer may find employment with the Guard, at a House of Healing, etc. It should be noted that in some cases, when the body can do its' own work, even Healers with a powerful Gift may elect to reserve their Healing energy and use only this basic level of treatment. Herbs in ointments, poultices, possets and potions can soothe or cure a variety of illnesses.
Similar to Mage-Gift, Healing strength is a spectrum. Those with a minimal Healing Gift may employ knife-and-herb treatment, and supplement that with a touch or burst of their Gift. This is the most common level of the Healing Gift. Of those more powerful than this, however, the order is much the same as for Mages:
Apprentice - Journeyman - Master - Adept
Healer-Adepts are extraordinarily rare. They are far less common than Mage-Adepts, comparatively, and the sheer scope of what they can do makes them exceptionally valuable. Mindhealers are even rarer as Mindhealing is a rarer Gift than normal Healing, and therefore a Mindhealer-Adept is valued higher, still, than a Healer-Adept. However, a Mindhealer-Adept is also of exceptionally limited scope of use, but there's nearly nothing of mental disorder and trauma that a Mindhealer-Adept could not repair.
Mindhealing is similar in scope and ability to Empathy. An example of this is Talia's ability to help heal.[1] Frequently a Mindhealer also has Empathy but the reverse is also true. They are rarely found alone.
