Herald-Mage Jaysen Kondre was the Seneschal's Herald during the end of the reign of Queen Elspeth the Peacemaker, and most of the reign of King Randale.
He grew up in the Kleimer region of eastern Valdemar. Jaysen was a close personal friend of Savil, and later, Vanyel, though he had issues at first with both Tylendel and Vanyel due to his "Kleimer prejudices." (Magic's Pawn)
Those prejudices leaked out and were picked up by a desperately injured, magic-blasted Vanyel, who turned the ugly thoughts inward; eventually deciding suicide at Tylendel's bier was the only answer. Jays helped save his life
Appearance[]
He was described as tall and "bleached-looking." (Magic's Pawn) In age, he was somewhere between Vanyel and Savil. In Magic's Promise his graying hair was mentioned.
Magic[]
He was one of the more powerful Herald-Mages in the Circle, enough that he became a Web-Guardian, taking the seat in the north.
Companion[]
Gifts[]
Jaysen had Mage-Gift and some Healing.
Death[]
When Vedric unleashed his trap-spell on Vanyel, only Jisa and Shavri were in any real danger. Jays was tasked to shield them from the magic-spawned creatures sent to tear them apart. Unfortunately, he was distracted at a critical moment. To save them, Jaysen and his Companion Felar used Final Strike, sacrificing their lives to kill the creatures.
"Lady Death" allowed him to speak with Vanyel briefly on his way out. He reassured him that his death was not Vanyel's fault, charged him to change the Web-Spell, and told him he wouldn't be alone much longer.[1]
