Jonne was a Guardsman fighting in his home territory during Randale's Karse Border War. He volunteered to serve as Herald-Mage Vanyel's guide to the area around Horn, Jonne's hometown.
When Vanyel was injured by mage-lightning, Jonne took him to a cave owned by his family, where they mine crystals. He had stashed supplies there, and the two spent several days together while Vanyel recovered.[1]
More than a bit shy, Jonne was even more fascinated by the real Vanyel, than he was by the legend. They became romantically involved, knowing that it was unlikely to last. The relationship did last two or three months before their respective duties pulled them apart. All the while, Jonne believed they were meant to come together at that time, as both needed the comfort and companionship the other could provide.
Vanyel described him as a "tough fighter," yet "diffident, even gentle." Yfandes described him as "rather sweet."[2]
Gifts[]
Jonne has two Gifts -- Empathy and Mindspeech. Both are so slight and unpredictable that they weren't considered worthwhile to train. They tend to surface when Jonne's emotions are running high.[1]
