Kavinestral of House Pheregrul was Kethry's older brother by eight years. She adored him until he betrayed her by selling her into "marriage" with a pedophile, Wethes Goldmarchant. She was rescued by her old nurse and left Mornedealth.
When Kethry returned with Tarma years later, Kavin helped Wethes kidnap her. Her rescue and subsequent court settlement left Kavin humiliated and on the run from various enemies.
