Wingleader Kelvren Skothkar was originally from White Gryphon, where he became a member of the Silver Gryphons. He moved to Kena Lesheyana Vale along with many of the other k'Leshya settlers. He is Darian's adopted gryphon brother. When Kelvren joined k'Valdemar, he was the only gryphon, so Darian made him Wingleader.
When Farragur Elm attempted to seize control of the area around Deedun and secede from Valdemar, Kelvren flew reconnaissance flights. He was badly injured defending the First Company of the Sixteenth Guard Regiment.
Aware that they lacked knowledge about gryphons, the Healers had to use their knowledge of draft animals and birds to try to heal him. They patched together his wounds as best they could. Lacking other space, he was put into the tent of mortally wounded cavalry officer Hallock Stavern. After talking and getting to know Hallock, and hearing about Hallock's wife Genni, Kelvren used the last of his magic to forcefully save Hallock's life. Being so badly injured already, expending all of his magic caused a fatal condition known as Hirs'ka'usk. Kelvren drained himself farther than any gryphon ever had before.
He was saved by Treyvan, who used a dangerous rejuvenation spell from the time of Skandranon to recharge him. The result was unexpected, changing his internal magic to uncontrolled and frighteningly powerful levels.
