Miniseries overview[]

Left widowed in the wake of Prince Karathanelan's assassination attempt on Queen Selenay, Lady Cera of Rethwellan is given the remote holding of Sandbriar, with which to start a new life. However, in the aftermath of the Tedrel Wars, the people of Sandbriar are barely hanging on. Her experience as a merchant's daughter is invaluable as she steers the holding towards revitalization and new trade opportunities.

Chronology (Warning! SPOILERS!)[]

  • 1378 AF Spring Prince Karathanelan dies. Lady Cera is granted Sandbriar and leaves Haven for Sandbriar the same day.
    • Summer Cera meets the people of Sandbriar and begins to learn about the holding's issues.
    • Fall Cera pursues the possibility of a chirra herd, but the Sandbriar expert rages instead.
    • Winter Emerson, an unwanted suitor for Cera's hand, arrives. However, he just wants to pursue his craft. The chirra expert apologizes and asks forgiveness.
  • 1379 AF Beginning of Spring Lady Cera goes out to a village to check the tax records. On her way home, she is attacked by bandits. She is succored by an arriving suitor, Withrin Ashkevron, bringing chirras. At the same time, she discovers wild kandace, which will be a valuable trade item. Withrin doesn't want to be a suitor, either, to her relief.
    • Spring During spring planting, working with kandace, and planning for a Midsummer celebration, Emerson's angry father, Lord Cition, arrives.
    • Summer, Days before Midsummer Herald Helgara is found injured by bandits while protecting Karse refugees. As Lady Cera greets her Midsummer guests and suitors, Master Healer Xenos and Master Apothecary Jebren arrive unexpectedly to help with the kandace. The fair is a success.
    • Summer, A few weeks later The Healers' Collegium is pleased with the kandace shipments, and suggests that Xenos return. The father of Lady Cera's deceased husband shows up demanding answers about his son's death.
    • Fall The Healers' Collegium tries to recall Xenos and Jebren. Xenos flatly states that he is not going. Lady Cera hears petitions, including people starting businesses and couples preparing to marry. She decides to make Gareth her heir. She and Jebren confess their love.
