Old Meroth is the most senior shepherd at Sandbriar. He is blunt-spoken and somewhat cranky, but an invaluable expert on all things pertaining to the local sheep herds.
Meroth's parents immigrated to Valdemar from Karse when Old Meroth was a small child. They retained the religion and the language, while otherwise adapting o their new homeland. Old Meroth still speaks fluent Karsite, which came in handy when Herald Helgara brought a Karsite refugee family to Sandbriar.
Meroth had a brainstorm some time in the past, leaving parts of his body paralyzed. He is described as "an old man, grizzled and gray... his right arm was lifeless, and his one eye sagged."[1]
