Both Tayledras and the Shin'a'in language are descended from the Kaled'a'in language, and share some cognates.
This page collects terms in the Tayledras language, translations, and (when possible) references.
- Ashke - beloved[1]
- Ekele - "treehouse" home of a Tayledras
- Ke'chara - used affectionately by Moondance to Vanyel, and by Savil to Vanyel,[2] clearly analogous to Kal'e'dain "kechara" - beloved.[3]
- Kes'ten'tayul'mae - accomplishments in action, or "meant to be in motion."[4]
- Leareth - "darkness"
- Leshy'a - spirit. It crops up in reference to Companions. Also see Tayledras "Ti'aeva'leshy'a" on this page. "Leshya'e" is used for Shin'a'in spirit Kal'enedral.[5] Used in Kaled'a'in for Clan k'leshya, the Spirit Clan.
- Seeit mut, kes'sia'kut - No gods have yet disagreed.[4] A joke meaning that since the gods have not expressed disapproval, a concept is apparently okay.
- Shay'a'chern: "'one whose lover is like self,' with a sexual connotation to the word 'self'.[1] Someone attracted to another of the same gender.
- Shaych: The Valdemaran contraction of it which entered the language around Vanyel's time.
- She'chorne: the Shin'a'in equivalent.
- The chern element shows up in the Kaled'a'in word "kestra'chern."
- Shay'kreth'ashke - lifebonded[6]. Note the inclusion of "ashke", meaning beloved.
- Ti'aeva'leshy'a - "forest spirit." Tayledras bondbirds eventually lose their coloring from proximity to node magic. They become snow-white "ghost birds," with markings in faint blue-gray. Note use of "Leshy'a," meaning spirit, or in this case ghost.[7]
- Voorthayshen - equivalent to a clan keep.[6][8]
- Zhai'helleva: "Wind to thy wings," a greeting or farewell.
