Chronology[]

1357 Deira was sixteen and pregnant "the last year before the war." (A war with Karse, 16 years prior to the start of the Tedrel Wars.) She left the Karse border when reavers (by definition meaning raiders intent on theft, not soldiers) burned Westerbridge. She and her daughter moved many times before settling in Evenleigh near the Pelagirs.[1]

1372 Selaine is 16 the year a monster attacks Evenleigh.[1]

1373 A year later, the start of the Tedrel Wars, the village is struck by "an odd sort of fever, brought by a little family fleeing westward from the wars that had made a waste of Valdemar’s borderlands." When Herald Garaval finds the fake healer, he says "I thought only that he was some madman displaced by the wars."[2] Selaine goes to Haven to attend the Healers' Collegium.[2]

  • Undefined date, 1373-1374 Andry Denorsdale's wife and children are killed by Tedrel brigands/bandits. He joins a group of recruits, the Gold Grass Valley Rangers, to fight in the Tedrel Wars.[3][4]
  • Undefined date, 1373-1375 Andry is wounded in a Tedrel ambush that killed half of his unit. He is brought to Haven for treatment. Selaine is part of the group that receives him. He becomes a gardener at the Palace.[3]

1375 Two years after Selaine arrived at the Healers' Collegium, refugees are pouring into Haven from the Tedrel Wars.[5]

  • Midsummer's Eve The students and Deira weave a protective God's-Eye through the streets of Haven.[5]
  • Still midsummer Deira meets Andry, and they become close. Andry is Chosen.[3]

1376, Midsummer. A year later, Andry is summoned home to Denorsdale.[4]
